Community Organizational Chart

Mead Betterment Group was established as an umbrella organization to support the overall development and improvement of the community and school.  This group serves as the Nebraska Committee Improvement Program Committee.  Several grants and award submissions have been submitted by this group.  This organizational chart has been researched and written by Mead High School Students who recognize the need to serve the community.  Corrections and additions can be submitted to any of the NCIP Committee Members listed.

Mead Community Foundation

Goals:  The Mead  Community Foundation was formed to support current and emerging needs and improvement projects for the community of Mead of its citizens.  The Foundation operates in affiliation with the Nebraska Community Foundation a 501(c)3 organization.  Local donors will

ATHLETIC BOOSTERS

Goal: To support the Mead athletic program and athletes.
Projects: Raising funds to help pay for the $24,000 Mead multi-purpose building.  Help with the athletic program in any way possible. 

PARENT-TEACHER ORGANIZATION (PTO)

Goal: To promote education throughout both Mead schools (kindergarten to 12th) and organize fund-raisers to benefit Mead's educational quality.
 

Projects:

  • Fund-raiser for a multi-purpose building.
  • Provide and serve ice-cream on Honors Night.
  • Provide a gift for National Honor Society members.
  • Serve dinner at the Mead football/volleyball soap scrimmage.
  • Provide money to pay for math tests at the high school.
  • Started Safety Patrol 1997-1998 and provide certification of achievement. 

CONTINUOUS LIBRARY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

NEBRASKA ORDNANCE PLANT COMMITTEE

MEAD DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

Goals:  Promote new housing throughout the community
Activities:  Sold stock, raised capital and developed six lots for new home construction.  A second development provided an additional 12 lots for new home construction.
 

MEAD BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT

Goals:  To replant a couple of spaces with environmentally sound and native grasses to reduce maintenance
Activities:  Replant median coming into town, Re-landscape around library, Created a patio area behind the library 

BALL ASSOCIATION

Goals:  Establish a second ball diamond with lights & concessions
Activities:  Maintain baseball ballparks, referee games, provide uniforms, schedules and teams.  The Mead Ball Assn is currently raising funds to erect lighting for the new ball diamond. 

TAKE OFF POUNDS SENSIBLY (TOPS)

MUSIC BOOSTERS

CCD: Confraternity of Christian Doctrine for children ages 6 through 18 years old.  Children grades 1 - 8, meet Wednesday evenings 6:30 - 7:45 pm.

Church Organizations

WELCA:  Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America
Goals:  Provides Christian outreach by sponsoring programs for families and has committees for growth, community and action.  Some of the sponsored main events are the annual ice cream social and picnic in July, soup supper in October, and Thanksgiving Eve pie social. This group also decorates for Christmastime and serves the annual Sunday School Christmas Program sandwich and salad supper.

Choirs:  Children's, Senior, and a Bell Choir.  May Hanson is the director of the Children's' choir and Janice Gustafson is the director of the senior choir and bell choir.  Viola Scoles is the church organist and provides accompaniment for the voice choirs.

Chat & Sew:  Meets on the first Tuesday of the month to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief.  Leaders are Doris Treptow and Alice Adams.

Bible Study:  There are three study groups which are called  circles.
    Faith Bible Study meets in the afternoon
    Joy Bible Study meets in the evening
    Hope Bible Study meets in the morning

Altar Guild:  President is Margie Nelson.  This group takes care of the alter, paraments and the flowers at the altar.  Two different women are in charge for each month during the year.

Service Groups:  These two groups handle serving funerals.  Group 1 is lead by Bert Berggren and Edna Hanson.  Group 2 is led by Dorothy Johnson and Mary Hanson.

Alma Youth Group:  The youth group conducts youth services in the church year and help lead contemporary services, lectoring, ushering and greeting.  They also cook and serve Easter Breakfast as well as a Lenten service soup meal. Additionally, youth help with Bible School and Sunday School Fun Days during the year.  Their serve also includes helping with the Mead Alumni Banquet and even sponsor a garage sale in May.

Fifth Quarter:  Kids are invited to the church after home football games for fun activities.  Youth leaders are Jill Dahl, June Moline, and Kim Thorson.
